The 2010 Cruise Vessel Safety and Security Act

When you are injured aboard a cruise ship, you may feel like you don't have any rights. That's not the case. There are numerous federal statutes and extensive maritime case law pertaining to passsengers aboard cruise ships and passenger vessels. In 2010, the United States enacted the Cruise Vessel Safety and Security Act.

The Cruise Vessel Safety and Security Act requires cruise lines take measures to better protect passengers. Some of the requirements relate to the reporting of crimes, what must be recorded in the cruise ship's log book (a "log book" is the vessel's diary that records the vessel's movements and significant events), the training and qualification of medical personnel and ship safety.

If you are facing a situation where you or a family member was injured or lost their life aboard a cruise ship, the Cruise Vessel Safety and Security Act along with other federal statutes may be important. Please talk to a maritime attorney to understand your rights and remedies. Contact maritime personal injury lawyer John K. Fulweiler, Esq. at 1-800-383-MAYDAY (6293).
